And even in the best of circumstances for her, these days there seem to be very few good roles for women and most of those seem to go to young Mainland actresses. I always get on this point of where and when are he next big actresses going to come from and make a real impact. The last one that comes to mind is Cecilia Cheung and well we know where that went. But even that was 10 years ago.Brian Naashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12798896753133473887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-67681121087568582622010-03-04T17:20:16.999-05:002010-03-04T17:20:16.999-05:00Gigi was very huge in the early 90s. I knew a HK guy who was infatuated with her. It was pretty funny. She's still great but as with many HK stars, they're thrown to the side of the road when they're no longer needed in films despite their popularity with the fans.fishcadonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-90923129279149763222010-03-04T12:18:44.819-05:002010-03-04T12:18:44.819-05:00YTSL - 8 films from Gigi. The only 2 films I have that are unseen with Gigi in it are Roots and Branches and Afraid of Nothing; The Jobless King. I am not exactly racing to see either but I guess I will have to. And you know how I feel about George Lam even under normal circumstances! He should stick to shoplifting.Brian Naashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12798896753133473887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-13024134823787384332010-03-04T11:42:57.454-05:002010-03-04T11:42:57.454-05:00Barbara Wong, while a fine actress, is to me a one...Barbara Wong, while a fine actress, is to me a one-hit wonder as a director: Women's Private Parts was very good, the rest of her's I've seen, not so much.

I think 2 Young is the best Fiona has done, though Love Undercover 3* was OK-good IIRC. Generally she's the best thing about the movie she's in. I've not seen her Embrace Your Shadow and Pandora's Booth.

* I think this series is mildly unappreciated. Worth a try if you're open to various kinds of comedies.Stevenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-38579924620912434242010-03-04T10:53:38.024-05:002010-03-04T10:53:38.024-05:00Hi Brian --

And even while this is not the case, it's still shocking -- but pleasantly so -- that you now see the charm of Gigi (and maybe Hello Kitty too?)... :)

For all this though: avoid Barbara Chun's "Wonder Women" PLEASE. And I know I'm spoiling things but -- Gigi getting raped by George Lam is NOT something that one wants to see. :(((((YTSLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09930487923185001591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-27431466428358306342010-03-04T05:19:42.695-05:002010-03-04T05:19:42.695-05:00Brian you might like All About Women. It's got some screwball comedy elements and it is briefly fun to see Zhou Xun do comedy.

Overall, I didn't like it very much apart from that. And Kitty Zhang is hot -- I think she was in CJ7 and has got quite a few fans.Glenn, kenixfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00735095946077123391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-45824406758829386732010-03-04T03:22:17.234-05:002010-03-04T03:22:17.234-05:00Ah Barbara Wong. There is a nice interview with her in the old HK movie book Cine East, accompanied by a few photos. Unfortunately they are black and white, but that smile of hers......

Wonder Woman was from 2007. It was directed by Barbara Wong. If so, I thought it was suppose to be awful so I never picked it up. I don't think I have seen Fiona in anything since 2 Young where she was amazing for such a young actress - what else would you recommend of hers. With Gigi I feel like I should go back and rewatch some of her early films and give her another chance. Or maybe not.Brian Naashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12798896753133473887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-4815309980181818662010-03-03T21:25:56.533-05:002010-03-03T21:25:56.533-05:00It's been a while, but I remember Wonder Women...It's been a while, but I remember Wonder Women being overall disappointing, even thought it had some good scenes and Fiona Sit, my favorite HK actress of the current crop.

I like Gigi's singing, but haven't warmed to her much otherwise.Stevenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-64087261198938646472010-03-03T18:33:25.185-05:002010-03-03T18:33:25.185-05:00DD - yup, I think of that as her Hello Kitty look ...DD - yup, I think of that as her Hello Kitty look - cute like a stuffed toy.

GK - I think you may need more than WND to wash out that taste - try a couple slugs of your favorite poison from your local bartender.Brian Naashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12798896753133473887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28108120.post-31330395872999250862010-03-03T17:43:31.449-05:002010-03-03T17:43:31.449-05:00That's so weird you mentioned that film becaus...That's so weird you mentioned that film because after the ordeal of Chinese Orthopedist, I wanted to watch something for pleasure and it was War Named Desire. I told someone that that was the first film where I actually really liked Sam Lee and Gigi Leung.
